About my books
Hello there ! I am Bert and I am the author of this guide to Málaga. So, why write a guide to Málaga? Having spent several winters, and a few summers on Costa del Sol and particularly in Málaga, often guiding friends and relatives, I decided to share my knowledge, fascination and love for the city with the rest of the world.
So, what is so great about Málaga? The climate of course, with the best winter climate in Europe. The culture, with the museums, the music, the food and drink. The accessibility by air, train, ship and car. And you can walk through the city centre in less than half an hour, of course with the exception of Alcazaba and Gibralfaro.
Yes you are right - "books"? It seems there is only one book available at the moment. Correct, but there are more books in the pipe line. Hopefully the next one will be on the market in May 2025. It will be a guide book about another part of Costa del Sol. There will be more information about this project later on this web site.
Visit interesting places in Málaga
Follow me to some of the interesting places in Málaga. They all appear in my book MÁLAGA ON FOOT.
Just east of the city is the river Guadalhorce and its delta. Today a nature park and easy to reach from the city.
I stand on the bridge (cycling and walking only) between mainland and the delta area. City and sports stadium in the background.
In this 67 hectar area there are more than 200 differnt species of birds. The lagoons are the result of sand and gravel extraction which went on until the 1980s. Before that part of the area was also used for farming. You can still see some remains of irrigation facilities.
This is also where the Phoenecians built the first small settlement which was the beginning of Málaga, sometime around 800-700 BC, before they moved to the area at the foot of Gibralfaro.
To the left you see the information boards near where the Phoenecians built the first Málaga. You can´t see anything of the actual remains because they were covered with soil after the excavations.
In the background you see MA-20 bridge.
